SSHH- It’s A Secret

SSHH- It’s A Secret

Hello again, I hope that you are well.

As usual another busy month, including courses in South Wales, London and Bristol and a research trip to Mansfield looking at new dental technology.

Oh, such an anorak it’s untrue. Good news is that I’m now an accredited “Secret Smile “provider

SSHH- It’s A Secret

“In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, on the trail of the lonesome pine”. I actually had that on a 7” single as a kid.

My aunty used to clean at a pub and got the fella who changed the duke box records to give it to her for my brother (twin) and myself. I laughed every time the high voice singing started!

I digress! So what’s the secret? Well secret smile is a type of lingual orthodontics. Oh dear, Branfield’s getting all techy too soon. Let’s break this down. Lingual, in dental terms, means on the tongue side.

Orthodontics is straightening teeth with braces. So putting together this is tooth straightening with fixed braces that are fixed on the tongue side of teeth (inside).

This means that the brackets on the teeth are out of sight (secret). Ingenious eh? This is what makes them a favourite with celebrities.

The Koreans Nail It

Lingual braces have been and gone a few times over the years. The main reason why is that the mechanics are very different to more convention braces attached to the front of teeth so a lack of understanding in the early days led to unexpected toot movements.

The crafty Koreans though have pioneered the research and formulated practical approaches to give great, predictable outcomes.

The Secret Smile brace is most efficient when dealing with straightening the front 6 teeth. The great thing is that it is truly invisible, that’s why the celebs like it!

Greece Is The Word

It’s only 10 days now until I travel to Greece on the first Dental Mavericks venture to treat poor souls in refugee camps, I’ll report next time.

It’s Children in Need tonight. This week, at work, we had a cake sale and raised about £150. Thanks to my team and everybody who bought a cake or two. Everything is OK in moderation!

Oh, my lad, Edward has settled in at Uni and is knuckling down, which is good.

Last thing is Hull City got a good win against Southampton, so some much needed points.

Sunderland away is another good chance to improve. Come on lads, give it some.

Until next time. Take care and be good.
